He then dedicated his activity to Architecture creating projects like the Islamic Art Center at the Louvre, the Tokyo Design Center in Japan, the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne and many other domestic and International projects. Some of his most successful furniture designs were in collaboration with Cassina and B&B Italia. An important part of the success of the Bambole collection was it’s marketing campaign. Piero Busnelli, founder of B&B Italia hired photographer Oliviero Toscani to create the campaign and the result was provocative and to the point. Model Donna Jordan, muse of Andy Warhol is photographed topless and in a series of trasgressive poses which at a point were censured and deemed too provocative for the audience. This contributes to the buzz and the success of this amazing product which is still in production today although with modifications from the original design.

Vintage authentic ‘Cannaregio’ designed by famous architect Gaetano Pesce and manufactured by Cassina in 1988. Made of two elements which can also be used independently. The concept of this Cassina ‘Cannaregio’ sofa was modularity; in the project, the designer created a collection of ten independent and differently shaped seating elements upholstered in multicolored fabrics. This modularity allowed for several possibilities of compositions for a small or larger setting. This featured combination is made of 2 pieces, one longer elements left-arm facing and one shorter element right-arm facing. It can also be used in a sectional version by separating the two elements which are also finished on the sides (see last pictures) and adding a side table in between the two. Gaetano Pesce Cannaregio sofa is featured on Design Magazine and design books, see literature reference below. The sofa was sourced in Italy directly from a private client's home.
Literature: 'Made in Cassina' Giampiero Bosoni, Skira, page 276. Literature: Literature:Gaetano Pesce: Cinq Techniques Pour le Virre/Experience au C.I.R.V.A., Barre, ppg. 223, 226
Visionnaire, avant-garde and anti-rationalism Gaetano Pesce is one of the most influential designers of our times. He is one of the 'Bigs' in Italian design next to Mario Bellini, Tobia Scarpa, Vico Magistretti, Cini Boeri, Gio Ponti and others architects who have their signatures over timeless designs. He was born in 1939 in La Spezia Italy and studied architecture at the University of Venice. Out of the schemes he started to study and research new materials like resin. When he met Cesare Cassina the founder of the Cassina furniture manufacturer he was given the chance to travel and experiment to find new solutions for the home. In 1969 he designed the Up series a revolutionary seating system made of high-density polyurethane foam with no interior structure a revolutionary design that could be vacuum-packed and stored and shipped flat. In 1970s Pesce got his first solo exhibition and two years later his designs were included into the Museum of Modern Art Exhibit “ The new Domestic Landscape: achievement and problems of Italian Design”. Some of his most outstanding designs include 'Tramonto a New York' and 'Cannaregio' sofas. During the 80s Gaetano Pesce continued his exploration of new materials and plastic, he relocated to New York and his works were awarded mentions and prizes and were exhibited into the most influential museums worldwide.
