This rare, vintage Le Bambole sectional sofa, designed by Mario Bellini for B&B Italia in the 1970s, is a true collector's item. It has been carefully restored by our professional Italian upholsterer, and features a new upholstery of rich, Italian chocolate brown leather. The original bottom jute still bears the B&B logo and the original B&B Italia label. An extraordinary piece of furniture, this Le Bambole sofa is comprised of four modular elements: three armless chairs and one corner element. CONDITIONS: excellent, professionally and carefully restored and newly upholstered by our Italian upholsterer. We kept the original jute at the bottom which bears manufacturer B&B Italia stamp on jute. Upon request we can offer pictures of restoration to the buyer.
The Le Bambole sofa, originally designed in 1972 by architect Mario Bellini for C&B Italia, is an iconic design from the 1970s and 1980s. This revolutionary design featured a construction of multi-density polyurethane foam molded into a single cushion for the seat and back. The cushion was held in place by four metal vertical inserts at the front and back, which were connected by a light metal base, eliminating the need for conventional frames and belts. The polyurethane molded structure also played an important part in the sofa's comfortability, allowing for it to be soft and comfortable from every angle. The collection featured multiple elements, ranging from armchairs to sectional pieces to chaises, giving users the opportunity to create personalized layouts. It is no surprise that in 1979, the Le Bambole sofa was awarded the Compasso D’Oro award. Today, the sofa is part of the permanent collection at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
