Designed by Afra and Tobia Scarpa in 1969, the Soriana collection won the prestigious Compasso D'Oro award, an Italian design award founded in 1954 by La Rinascente company. This award also recognized the work of other great Italian architects such as Franco Albini and Achille Castiglioni. The Soriana was revolutionary for its time, encapsulating a bundle of fabric within a metal frame. Over 50 years later, the Soriana is still a favorite among designers and private buyers all over the world. You can still see it featured in design projects and magazines, as people look to recapture the classic 1970s Italian style. The upholsterer has carefully recreated the folding at the side and back, a unique element of the Tobia Scarpa design.
