Discovering Mid-Century Marvels in Italy: Our Recent Buying Trip

Last month at the beginning of October Designitalia wrapped up another incredible buying and incoming program trip to Italy; our team set off on an exciting journey, intent on acquiring some truly remarkable Italian mid-century furniture for its gallery. This time though, this venture was not only about sourcing unique pieces but also about fostering connections between Italian vendors and our American counterparts—fellow dealers, friends, and partners who share a passion for the timeless beauty of mid-century design.

Our expertise spans through several channels and we also function as a bond between Italy and our American counterparts.

Our expedition began in the heart of Italy, Milan, where we were greeted by an array of vintage offerings wandering through flea markets along the Navigli and around the city. The thrill of discovering these masterpieces, from sleek minimalist sofas to elegantly crafted dining tables, was palpable as we navigated through the vibrant stalls and little stores.

We then moved to Central Italy where we brought together Italian vendors and our American peers who were eager to dive deeper into the world of mid-century furniture design, especially those who are approaching this market more broadly. By accompanying them to various vintage fairs and markets, we provided them with firsthand insights and a unique perspective on the Italian market. It was a chance for them to learn directly from the experts, understand the provenance of the pieces, and appreciate the intricate details that make these items so special. Conversations flowed freely, and the exchange of knowledge and ideas was truly inspiring. Our American friends were able to see, touch, and experience the furniture in its native environment, providing a depth of understanding that simply cannot be replicated through photos or descriptions alone not to mention the thrill of the hunt!

Throughout the trip, we also took the time to enjoy the rich culture and history of Italy, our home country. We explored picturesque towns, indulged in authentic Italian cuisine, and soaked in the beauty of the Italian landscape. These experiences added another layer of richness to our journey, making it not only a professional but also a deeply personal adventure checking out with old friends and family members over luscious dinners!

In the evenings, we often gathered to reflect on the day’s discoveries and share our thoughts. The camaraderie and shared passion for mid-century design created a sense of community that was both uplifting and motivating. Our team at Designitalia was there every step of the way, offering support, expertise, and an infectious enthusiasm for the treasures we encountered.

At the end, we can easily assert our latest buying trip to Italy was a resounding success, filled with memorable moments and incredible finds. Now it’s time for you to enjoy it as well: If you are a dealer, gallery owner, buyer or designer and are located in the USA please contact us if you would like to be part of this journey!
